Alternative Energy Solutions
Geothermal heating and cooling systems have the highest Energy Star rating of any system available. In fact, they are more that 3 ½ times more efficient than the average conventional system. With energy tax credits, utility rebates and lower overall operating costs, your geothermal system will start giving you a Return On Investment the first day you use it.
An Air Source Heat Pump is an air conditioner with a reversing valve that allows it to operate 12 months out of the year. In summer months the unit extracts heat from inside the house and discharges it out doors. In the heating season the unit extracts heat from the air outside and sends it inside the house. The compressor runs the same way summer and winter. The analogy is the motor in your car. It always runs in the same direction and the transmission moves the car forward or in reverse.
Modern under floor heating systems use either electrical resistance heating elements or fluid flowing in pipes called hydronic systems. Electric resistance works well in small areas of low mass heating such as bathrooms, entries, kitchens or other small areas. Hydronic systems work well in high mass applications such as basement, garage, patios or large floor areas. Hydronic systems use a mixture of water and propylene glycol as the heat transfer fluid in a “closed loop” circulated in the flooring.
